Frequently Asked Questions

  •
  • How can I tell if my iPod needs service?

Visit our iPod support site or iPod nano support site for helpful troubleshooting information. If you have reviewed the articles on the website, and you're still not sure whether your iPod requires service, you can take your iPod to your local Apple retail store for diagnosis. Note: There may be a fee for diagnostic service.

  • Will the data on my iPod be preserved?

No. You will receive a replacement iPod that will not contain any of your data, songs, or after-market personalization. Please back up important files and remove all data from your defective iPod before sending it to Apple. Please do not send any accessories with your iPod as they will not be returned.

  • How long will my iPod service take?

If your iPod is not personalized, you can expect service to be completed within approximately one week from the time you send your iPod to Apple. If your iPod is personalized, you can expect service to be completed within approximately ten calendar days from the time you send your iPod to Apple.

To determine your warranty coverage enter the serial number of your iPod in the "About Your Support Coverage" section on the Apple Support site. Apple may need to examine your proof of purchase document to verify your iPod's warranty status.

  • What if I don't have a credit card?

If you do not have a credit card, please take your iPod to your local Apple Store location for help with warranty service.

  • What kind of activities will void my warranty?

Apple's Limited Warranty for iPod excludes coverage for damage resulting from accident, unauthorized service and unauthorized modifications. Please review the warranty for further details.

For "full size" iPod models starting with the iPod photo (30 GB) and second iPod photo (60 GB) (M9830LL/A) -- including the iPod Color Display, iPod U2 Edition (Color), iPod 5G (with Video), iPod U2 Edition 5G, iPod 5G Enhanced, and iPod U2 Edition 5GE -- the simplest way to transfer photos from many digital cameras to your iPod is to use the Apple iPod Camera Connector. Please unfortunately note that all iPod models starting with the iPod classic (6G) and iPod touch do not support importing photos from cameras at all using the iPod Camera Connector or otherwise.
